Frontier Productions “The Science Of Extreme Sports” Series Introduction

The Science Of Extreme Sports“, years in the making, Frontier Productions is soon to release this television series that takes a profound look into various high risk sports and the athletes that have dedicated themselves to control the dangerous elements that surround them.

Genre: Sports, Adventure, Science

Who: Each program follows a top professional extreme sports athlete, chosen carefully to present their extreme sport experience and lifestyle with accuracy, intelligence and interest. They are real people, with unique characters and personalities, who are experts in their field.

Where: We find these people where they are most comfortable…on the highest mountains, in the deepest seas, riding the biggest waves, high above the Earth, harnessing the power of the wind, and in an undersea realm where the hunter may become the hunted.

Extreme Point of View: We put the viewer in the mind and body of the adventurer using POV cameras, live-audio, and extreme-angle, multi-camera acquisition that delivers an intimate and exhilarating experience and draws the viewer deep into the picture.

Synopsis:

Series opening narration: “Nature’s beauty. Nature’s Fury. To know her intimately, you must experience her extremes. There are no rules, no boundaries, and no time-outs. Action heroes in the flesh, those who dare to push the limits, reap the rewards. But the bottom line however is that living this close to the edge, an error can prove fatal. From high above the Earth to deep beneith the sea, prepare to dive into the action and be as close as you can get…The Science of Extreme Sports.”

Using story-driven, first person narrative, the series allows the viewer to be guided by the athletes in some of the world’s most remote and extreme locations. Each program delivers spectacular eye-catching imagery, packaged with dynamic soundtrack, graphics and 3-D animations. Presented are scientific explanations of the physiology, physics and technology involved, as well as the theory, mechanics and skills that are required to safely perform these “crazy” activities. Without this knowledge, in all cases, the untrained would quickly die attempting to do any of these feats, therefore they are justly deemed extreme.

Citibank Cup Regatta Sailing TV Program

Frontier Productions produced one of the most exciting sailing regatta tv programs memorable with big sponsors Citibank, Yahoo, Zurtec, United Airlines and the Hawaiian Islands tourism board.

Using lots of helicopter shots and water angles, expose the viewers to the spectacular beauty of the San Francisco Bay and one of the best sailing venues in the world.

Strong winds, rough water and fast currents make the 20+ sailboat fleet racing an action packed spectacle for the thousands of tourists watching up close off Pier 39. The 11 Metre class sailboats with their huge sails run at high speeds and the crashes between them on the tight race course were shocking.

Too bad not all sailing race coverage is as exciting as this one!

David Levine and Justin Wheeler started Frontier Productions to make sports videos and tv programs.

Later we got side-tracked with corporate and commercial work that paid significantly more for our efforts, but we still continued where we could. See our Broadcast Demo Reel that has lots of sports television programs in it.

Now Frontier Productions is more focused on sports than ever before, producing a new television series on extreme sports (soon to be announced) and shooting extreme sports stock footage for other producers use.

“Sailing On San Francisco Bay” TV Program

San Francisco Bay is one of the most consistently windy places on the planet, making it a world class location for sailing and yachting.  It has become a venue for many sailing regattas as well as a training ground for sailors from around the world to compete.

We join hosts Zach Berkowitz and Mindi Bach as they explore the sailing lifestyle and take a tour of the Bay on board a racing sailboat with professional sailors John Sweeney and Tina Kleinjan.  Cameraman Christopher Johnson needs to be credited for braving the wind and the elements on the Bay while keeping the camera dry.

Clint Eastwood Funny Interview Clip

Here is a short clip from an interview we did with Clint Eastwood for a video game based on him made by Starwave (way back in 1995).

Referring to a quote from his movie Sudden Impact, “Everyone at the golf tournament comes up to me and says “Go ahead, make my day.” I must have heard it 10,000 times”. So Clint seems to be wearing of his role as Dirty Harry, “This phrase could get old after a while”.

Quake On The Gold Coast: California Windsurfing Guide

Frontier Productions is dusting off their classic windsurfing film “Quake On The Gold Coast: California Windsurfing Guide” which we shot in 1993…ages ago…but it still has its charm.

Reviewed by the windsurf magazines at the time, it was “the Godfather of windsurfing videos”, probably because we used lots of helicopter angles and shot in film a large amount of it with the famous surfing cameraman Stephen Spaulding, also because it has the famous landmarks of the San Francisco Bay Area. Also featured are the wavesailing spots of Central California and Punta San Carlos in Baja California.

Directed by Justin Wheeler and David Zvi Levine, it features windsurfers Ian Boyd, Bennet Williams, Peter Trow, Howie Green, Dean Karnazes, Topher Gaylord, Brad Duffy and many other top California windsurfers.

We have enabled embedding and DOWNLOAD of the video file.  Or you can download it by clicking on “Vimeo” in the player and once on their website at the bottom of the screen there is a “DOWNLOAD: Download Quicktime” button. Pass it around to all your windsurfing friends and enjoy!

Frontier Productions Interviews Demo Reel

Much of corporate communications video production requires shooting interviews with key members of the business.  This can be one of the most challenging parts of the production process as some people, even the boss, are camera shy.  There is a real technique to making it all work out well.  Here are a few interviews that stood out from the rest.

David Lewis from Free At Last clip from a video we produced called “Breaking The Chains”.  San Quentin prison is the background, where David spent some time.  Now outside, he is a real leader and reformer of prisoners and other troubled souls.

Astronaut Edgar Mitchell from the Apollo 14 mission is one of the few men who has walked on the Moon. In a promotional video for his non-profit group, The Institute Of Noetic Sciences, we speaks of budgets to sustain further exploration.

Check out our funny Clint Eastwood interview which deserved to be on its own.

Oil Spill Cleanup Video Footage

In 2002 we witnessed and produced a documentary on the Prestige oil spill in northern Spain, the worst environmental disaster in European history and bigger than the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Despite best efforts by SEO Birdlife workers to recover and clean the oil covered seabirds, of the thousands hand washed birds, SEO’s own studies showed that few if any survived in the months following. The estimated total of birds that died in that oil spill was over 300,000. The damage to the marine environment was incalculable as the oil was not contained and spread across thousands of kilometers of coastline from Spain to France, Portugal and the UK. The sunken hull of the Prestige continues leaking oil today from deep beneath the sea.

See video clips of oil spill stock footage damage at AdventureImagery.com, including SEO Birdlife volunteers cleaning the birds by hand.

“La Ola Negra” Spanish Surf and Oil Spill Documentary Intro

In Spanish.  Visit LaOlaNegra.com for more information and to watch the entire documentary.

No one else has such intimate contact with the ocean’s energy as a surfer deep in the curl of a powerful wave, and few things are more destructive to the ocean than a black wave of crude oil impacting on the shore.   Directed by Justin Wheeler of Frontier Productions and starring professional surfer Dani Garcia, “La Ola Negra” uncovers the dark side of ocean pollution in an exciting and unique story as told by surfers and other people of the sea.

“LA OLA NEGRA” STORY

In the small paradise of northern Spain, no one has such intimate contact with the ocean’s energy as a surfer deep in the curl of a powerful wave or a fisherman dependent on its bounty.

Tragically, it is these same people who receive the direct impact of the Prestige oil spill, Europe’s worst environmental disaster.  Experience it first hand, as we follow professional surfer, Dani Garcia, on a year-long journey in the wake of this black wave and as he uncovers other contamination that is degrading the ocean more permanently than the oil spill itself.

Riding a wave of positive energy towards a brighter day, Dani and his friends bring to our attention the importance of a clean ocean for future generations.

PROGRAM OBECTIVE

A celebration of the ocean environment through the people that live there, “La Ola Negra” presents a complete and balanced story of the surfing lifestyle through well-developed characters, great action, good music, beautiful scenery and dramatic footage.  Covering the history of surfing in Spain, its professional surfers and the perfect wave, with point-of-view camera angles to put the viewer on the board and in the barrel, this story will appeal to both surfers and non-surfers alike.

This program promotes the surfing lifestyle to the youth market and also to the much greater general audience who will see it from a new perspective and will see the need for a clean ocean.  “La Ola Negra” offers an important message for future generations in a fun and exciting presentation.
