Frontier Productions produced the World Extreme Skiing Championships in the Chugach Mountain Range.
Alaska boasts the true meaning of big mountain “extreme” skiing. Shooting video in this type of terrain is not for the weak hearted cameraman. Past avalanches and accidents have proven that ski-mountaineering is not to be taken lightly, as we position ourselves on some of the highest and most exposed peaks up in Alaska’s rugged Chugach. The local weather systems are unpredictable and the area’s remoteness can leave the skiers and camera crews stranded on their own, exposed to the elements for days.
With years of experience in high angle mountaineering the Adventure Imagery cameramen returned with some of the most awesome extreme skiing footage ever captured. Ten professional ski cameramen were positioned on the slopes and on opposing peaks, and the production team also used a Jet Ranger helicopter flying for every descent down some of the highest and most exposed peaks up in the range.
On this shoot Adventure Imagery also pioneered the use of POV helmet-mounted cameras with live-audio to put the viewer into the boots of the skiers…and it worked producing some of the most thrilling point-of-view skiing footage ever seen. It is an impressive logistical team effort and a great adventure in one of the most visually stimulating locations one can imagine. Enjoy the final results of our Alaska extreme skiing stock footage!
